The National Leadership Team uses an online Project Based Leadership Training website that allows you to track your completed projects and create an impressive Project Portfolio that you can use for the rest of your life. It’s easy to use, easy to navigate, fast and simple. But don’t let its simplicity deceive you; underneath the gleam, it’s got some powerful features and is extremely productive in developing leaders through Project Based Leadership Training.
Our Philosophy
The NLT is still pretty new, but our experience has proven a few things:

Project Based Leadership
Training Is Without A Doubt
The
Best Method For Creating Leaders
Because It Creates Opportunities
For Powerful Experiences And
Challenges That Will Help The
Participant Practice Real
Leadership. |
|
|
People,
in general, are good, and
they possess
a
power within to overcome
adversity and achieve
their goals in life. Some
people call this power
courage, some call it
initiative, some even call
this power self reliance. |
|
|
PBLT can be
practiced at any
age and is extremely versatile
for many different project types
and interests. (Environmental
Self Defense, Animals, World
Awareness...etc) |
|
|
Leadership Is Learned Through
Your Experiences. Powerful Experiences Create Leaders. Period. |
|
|
We've
found the NLT System to be
an amazing system for
helping youth
unlock their inner potential
to achieve great things in
their lives through taking
ACTION, building upon past
success, and taking many
leadership roles. |
|
|
Persistence And Push ('Never
Quit' Attitude)
Are
Necessary For Your Success
and can be practiced through
completing and recording
community action projects
and creating a project
portfolio. |
|
|
We
believe that the NLT can
help children and adults
connect positive thoughts
with positive actions
effectively teaching them
how to achieve great things
and become very successful
later on in life. |
|
|
Though The National Leadership
Team Was Started By Martial
Artists,
It Is A Readily

Master Tom Callos
(6th Degree Black Belt) is
the original visionary of
the Project Based Leadership
Training idea. Head Coach of
The Ultimate Black Belt
Test. From a self-defense perspective, I hold the opinion that more people will be hurt by either their inability to exercise effective leadership, or by suffering the pain of serving under ineffective leaders, than will ever be hurt by a kick, punch, or throw. So, as a master teacher of the martial arts, I naturally gravitate towards offering lessons that address many of the character traits, habits, and beliefs of people universally recognized as leaders. Along with a wicked front kick, I would, if I were a talented enough teacher, work to instil the kind of patience and courage in my students that Mahatma Gandhi demonstrated when he led India to independence and inspired movements for civil rights and freedom around the world." |

![]() Mr. Gary Engels (3rd Degree Black Belt) is the Creator and Head Coach of The National Leadership Team Project. "The National Leadership Team was originally designed to challenge and motivate martial artists across the nation to demonstrate REAL Leadership through taking ACTION in their communities, it has since evolved to include non-martial arts groups, organizations, and schools who are interested in global change and who believe that ONE PERSON, through Leadership and Positive Action, TRULY CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE." "With the National Leadership Team, students (young and old) are happy to complete and track their progress as they complete the leadership challenges and complete and track their community action projects. Our NLT students are highly motivated to help others, learn leadership, and improve the world around us. We've found the best way to motivate them to complete the Leadership Challenges and complete their leadership projects is through the use of the Belt Rank System (similar to our martial arts ranks) and the creation of their own Presentable Project Portfolio that they can use for a lifetime of success. Students can use this Project Portfolio to demonstrate to others their ability to lead a group to success, gain credibility through previous leadership experiences, and set themselves up for success in any future endeavor." "Leadership is the most sought after skill in the world, it is the most precious commodity on earth. EVERYONE is looking for real leadership to follow. From our experience, most people are willing to help with your YOUR PBLT PROJECTS, they are just waiting for a LEADER (you) to ask them to join you and show them where to go. This is your chance, your opportunity, to follow the heroes and leaders before us who weren't afraid to do what is right in order to make a real difference in our world." |

-
When a 5 year old child joins the NLT and begins a PBLT project (or helps with someone else’s) they are exposing themselves to not only lessons in leadership, but lessons in peace, courage, follow through, integrity, hope, trust, patience, persistence, and compassion at a very young and impressionable age.
-
After training with PBLT, that same child (now 9 yrs old) is capable of leading a group of peers to completing a project almost all on his/her own.
-
As the child begins to develop and learn, this 15 year old will use his/her leadership to develop projects and lead their classes throughout school.
-
As a tool for getting into college, this young adult will have an impressive project portfolio which can be used to give them an advantage to getting into a good school of there choice.
-
In college, a member of the NLT will begin to apply the leadership skills learned through their Leadership Training to their course of study and excel faster and further than others around them.
-
After college, they will present their ever-expanding project portfolio to an employer to help them get a job with a company who is looking for someone with experience in leading a team to success.
-
On the job, and for the rest of their life, they will use the skills that were learned, the experiences from their projects, the philosophy and training they were exposed too, and the people they met during each and every one of their projects to help them live a lifetime of success, service, and happiness.
