Old Way vs. New Way

The Old Way of teaching leadership education/character development and the old way of motivating and inspiring children, youth, and teens was through speakers or books about someone else's journey toward leadership.

The New Way is to make these students become the ACTION hero of their own journey. Give them challenges to take action in their communities and challenge them to take real action on their goals and achievements. They will be building confidence and leadership skills through creating their own successful stories and recording it in their NLT members area along the way.

Which of the following is more powerful?

Old Way 1) Give a student a book or movie on leadership
Old Way 2) Send a student to an inspiring lecture about their ability to succeed
Old Way 3) Have a student talk one-on-one with inspiring mentors

...or...

New Way) Create a situation where the student becomes the ACTION HERO of his/her own journey. Challenge them to learn Powerful Leadership Traits through taking Real Action in their own lives.

The student and the Team Leader will be able to track the student's results of their ACTIONS on the NLT website. This tracking will help them become a member of a team that logs 5000 community projects and will effectively teach them something very real about confidence, discipline, courage, action, awareness, and leadership.

Join our community of National Leadership Team members who are enhancing their lives and furthering their leadership education through community activism, environmental self-defense, peace education and personal development.  Track your progress, complete the leadership training section, create your own Leadership Project Portfolio to gain credibility and experience as a leader, and share your projects and your success with others.

WHY 5000 PROJECTS?
5000 is a starting point for making a statement. 5000 is something that we as a team can be proud of. 5000 gives us the credibility and social proof that we are people of ACTION and are truly making a difference. With 5000 projects recorded, you will have done your part and built your own PROJECT PORTFOLIO (of 5-10 projects) that is worthy of recognition. When the team hits 5000 projects, the members of the NLT will have learned something very REAL about LEADERSHIP. When the NLT hits 5000 projects, we will reset our goals higher and continue on our Journey.

The Power Of Being On A Team of Winners
With a team, you'll be able to leverage the experience of those who have come before you. You'll be able to meet friends and inspirational 'heroes' and role models in the NLT community that you can follow. With a team, you'll have access to a group of like minded individuals on the same mission as you: TO BUILD SOMETHING MEMORABLE AND WORTHWHILE WHILE LEARNING REAL LEADERSHIP.

As a member of the NLT, your PBLT training will require you to conceive of, plan, and LEAD a community service project (or several) of your choosing to demonstrate character, leadership ability, and commitment to community. You will be completing proven Leadership Lessons to learn character traits of real leaders all while building your own Project Portfolio which you can use for a lifetime of success. This is the #1 way to learn real leadership, through experience and real action. Leaders are never born, they are created through overcoming adversity, having positive experiences, and plenty of real practice in a leadership role.

Philosophy and Action:
The Foundation of the National Leadership Team

"If A Picture is Worth A Thousand Words,
Than An Action Is Worth A Thousand Pictures."

~ Grand Master Jhoon Rhee
World Renowned 10th Degree Black Belt

The National Leadership Team uses an online Project Based Leadership Training website that allows you to track your completed projects and create an impressive Project Portfolio that you can use for the rest of your life. It’s easy to use, easy to navigate, fast and simple. But don’t let its simplicity deceive you; underneath the gleam, it’s got some powerful features and is extremely productive in developing leaders through Project Based Leadership Training.

        Our Philosophy

The NLT is still pretty new, but our experience has proven a few things:

bullet Project Based Leadership Training Is Without A Doubt The Best Method For Creating Leaders Because It Creates Opportunities For Powerful Experiences And Challenges That Will Help The Participant Practice Real Leadership.

bullet People, in general, are good, and they possess a power within to overcome  adversity and achieve their goals in life. Some people call this power courage, some call it initiative, some even call this power self reliance.

bullet PBLT can be practiced at any age and is extremely versatile for many different project types and interests. (Environmental Self Defense, Animals, World Awareness...etc)

bullet Leadership Is Learned Through Your Experiences.
Powerful Experiences Create Leaders. Period.

bullet We've found the NLT System to be an amazing system for helping youth unlock their inner potential to achieve great things in their lives through taking ACTION, building upon past success, and taking many leadership roles.

bullet Persistence And Push ('Never Quit' Attitude) Are Necessary For Your Success and can be practiced through completing and recording community action projects and creating a project portfolio.

bullet We believe that the NLT can help children and adults connect positive thoughts with positive actions effectively teaching them how to achieve great things and become very successful later on in life.

bullet Though The National Leadership Team Was Started By Martial Artists, It Is A Readily Available System For Any Group Or Team To Participate And Learn Real Leadership.

bullet Creating A Project Portfolio and Completing The Leadership Training With The NLT Can Not Only Help You Learn REAL Leadership Skills, But It Will Assist You In Getting Into A Great Secondary School (College),  Get That Highly Competitive Job Opportunity That You've Been Working Towards,  And Create A Lifetime Of Success And Happiness Through Positive Action And Activism.

Every project, challenge, and word on this site was written with these principles and experiences in mind. If all of that sounds good to you then maybe you can help us out with our mission and build your own Project Portfolio while learning real leadership in the process!

Master Tom Callos (6th Degree Black Belt) is the original visionary of the Project Based Leadership Training idea. Head Coach of The Ultimate Black Belt Test.
www.UltimateBlackBeltTest.com
www.TheNewWayNetwork.com
"I subscribe to the great karate master Gichen Funakoshi’s definition of the purpose of martial arts training: "The ultimate aim of karate lies not in victory or defeat, but in the perfection of the character of its participants."

From a self-defense perspective, I hold the opinion that more people will be hurt by either their inability to exercise effective leadership, or by suffering the pain of serving under ineffective leaders, than will ever be hurt by a kick, punch, or throw. So, as a master teacher of the martial arts, I naturally gravitate towards offering lessons that address many of the character traits, habits, and beliefs of people universally recognized as leaders. Along with a wicked front kick, I would, if I were a talented enough teacher, work to instil the kind of patience and courage in my students that Mahatma Gandhi demonstrated when he led India to independence and inspired movements for civil rights and freedom around the world."

Mr. Gary Engels (3rd Degree Black Belt) is the Creator and Head Coach of The National Leadership Team Project.

"The National Leadership Team was originally designed to challenge and motivate martial artists across the nation to demonstrate REAL Leadership through taking ACTION in their communities, it has since evolved to include non-martial arts groups, organizations, and schools who are interested in global change and who believe that ONE PERSON, through Leadership and Positive Action, TRULY CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE."

"With the National Leadership Team, students (young and old) are happy to complete and track their progress as they complete the leadership challenges and complete and track their community action projects. Our NLT students are highly motivated to help others, learn leadership, and improve the world around us. We've found the best way to motivate them to complete the Leadership Challenges and complete their leadership projects is through the use of the Belt Rank System (similar to our martial arts ranks) and the creation of their own Presentable Project Portfolio that they can use for a lifetime of success.  Students can use this Project Portfolio to demonstrate to others their ability to lead a group to success, gain credibility through previous leadership experiences, and set themselves up for success in any future endeavor."

"Leadership is the most sought after skill in the world, it is the most precious commodity on earth. EVERYONE is looking for real leadership to follow. From our experience, most people are willing to help with your YOUR PBLT PROJECTS, they are just waiting for a LEADER (you) to ask them to join you and show them where to go. This is your chance, your opportunity, to follow the heroes and leaders before us who weren't afraid to do what is right in order to make a real difference in our world."

NLT and PBLT is for ALL AGES
That Includes YOU!

  • When a 5 year old child joins the NLT and begins a PBLT project (or helps with someone else’s) they are exposing themselves to not only lessons in leadership, but lessons in peace, courage, follow through, integrity, hope, trust, patience, persistence, and compassion at a very young and impressionable age.

  • After training with PBLT, that same child (now 9 yrs old) is capable of leading a group of peers to completing a project almost all on his/her own.

  • As the child begins to develop and learn, this 15 year old will use his/her leadership to develop projects and lead their classes throughout school.

  • As a tool for getting into college, this young adult will have an impressive project portfolio which can be used to give them an advantage to getting into a good school of there choice.

  • In college, a member of the NLT will begin to apply the leadership skills learned through their Leadership Training to their course of study and excel faster and further than others around them.

  • After college, they will present their ever-expanding project portfolio to an employer to help them get a job with a company who is looking for someone with experience in leading a team to success.

  • On the job, and for the rest of their life, they will use the skills that were learned, the experiences from their projects, the philosophy and training they were exposed too, and the people they met during each and every one of their projects to help them live a lifetime of success, service, and happiness.

It’s never too late to start. Start your Leadership Training today!

"I wanted to take a moment to thank you for the wonderful impact you've had in Walker's life... He looks up to you [and the others in the NLT] with great respect and works hard on the leadership program goals you've established together. Thanks again and keep up your great work.

"Clara's experience with the Leadership Quest Program has been very positive. Although we can see some very positive changes in many ways, there was one incident that spoke volumes to us; we had spoken to Clara's current teacher during open house and she was telling us how much Clara participates in class and raises her hand all the time. Until she set that goal, every teacher prior had told us how quiet and reserved she was!"

- Tami Schroeder
(Clara's Mother)

"...Its been amazing to watch our youngest daughter transform from a shy 5 year-old to a confident 9 year old. She has experienced the satisfaction that comes with overcoming one's fears to achieve your goals.
We have also witnessed a remarkable level of focus and determination in our older daughter. She has become goal oriented and has worked very hard for her multiple achievements...
We are very pleased with the [NLT] Leadership Program. Not only does Mr. Engels teach the skills needed to advance in martial arts, through this website and this program, he is helping to mold our children into responsible citizens. His leadership program focuses on the development of positive character traits through lessons involving goal-setting and community service projects... The Leadership Program comes highly recommended by all members of the Raykovich family!"

- Tom and Susan Raykovich
