Use
Your Influence To Teach Something About
Leadership
Motivation
Your decision to help your team (or class,
organization, group...) build a project
portfolio could be one of the most important
decisions you will ever make for them. Help
motivate them to take action in your
community and watch them transform into
leaders that have a glowing advantage in
life.
Take
An Active Role
Don't expect the members of your group to
just go out and take action, you may need to
help them along their journey. No matter
what age group your working with (5 or 55),
you need to take an active role in their
projects. The most important part is to
'guide' them and mentor them but not to do
it for them. You should be there to help
keep them accountable and be sure to let
them know how important their community
projects are to their future. You can do
this by participating in your own PBLT
projects as an adult or by simply being an
"assistant" in your group's projects.
The
Most Precious Skill On Earth
Of all of the lessons that your team will
learn while participating in the NLT, there
is no
lesson
that will take them further in life than the
art of leadership. There is no better method
for teaching leadership than by helping the
members of your organization get involved in
projects in your community that will place
them in a leadership role. The experiences
that they will learn as they build their
Project Portfolio will be forged into their
memories forever. They will be able to draw
from those experiences later in life when
they have another opportunity to lead a
future team to success.
You
Can't Do It For Them
As hard as it is sometimes, you won't be
able to teach them leadership. They can only
learn leadership through taking action and
earning those experiences. Too often we try
and "Teach Leadership" when instead we
should be helping them learn "How To Lead".
Setting
Your Team Up For A
Lifetime Of Success
Whatever path the members of your team
choose later in life, Leadership traits and
skills will play a key role in their
success. The more experience they can gain
early on, the better off they will be. You
have an opportunity to be the one that
teaches them the most precious skill on
earth: LEADERSHIP.
Investing In Their Future
For only $50/YEAR, you can manage your
team and begin to build a professional
Project Portfolio for your team that they
can use to improve the world around us, one
community project at a time. This TEAM
Project Portfolio will stay with your group
through the years and will help you
track/record the memories and projects that
your group members have accomplished with
your guidance. This is a great credibility
tool when you can show others the results
(positive projects in your community) from
being a part of your group (class, team,
organization...).
Become a Role Model
You
can also use the NLT to simply track your
projects and lead by example, becoming a
role model for a future generation of
leaders. The kids and youth of the NLT and
of your community are looking for others to
set the example for them to follow.
Naturally they look to adults for guidance
and leadership. This is your opportunity to
become a hero in the eyes of a child. When a
child looks to you for leadership and
support, will your actions help shape their
young minds in a positive way or a negative
direction? When you complete community
action projects and allow them to become a
part of it, you will help teach them real
leadership and respect along the way,
effectively helping them gravitate towards
becoming a future leader themselves.
Capturing the Moment
Your
opportunities for greatness are all around
you. Participating in PBLT is one of those
vehicles that can help shape your future. By
taking action, recording the results, and
sharing your passion with others, you will
effectively be taking a leadership role in
your community. This could be a springboard
for future opportunities that you may have
overlooked in the past. Capture the moment
now by taking action and building a PBLT
Project Portfolio today so you can use it
when the opportunity presents itself.
Start Small and Grow
Your initial project can be something
small. Your project doesn't have to be huge,
every little bit counts! Begin to build your
Project Portfolio with small projects, build
success,
and
then grow your projects as your ability to
lead grows.
Large Scale Projects
Once you've
successfully completed a handful of smaller
projects, you can start tackling a larger
project that includes more people and will
help a bigger cause. As college students,
your ability to lead and inspire others is
at an all time high. Turn that energy into
ACTION in your community and watch your
Leadership Skills develop through inspiring
others to WANT to help you in your projects.
Community Service and Activism
You can help your team understand the
importance of helping others through acts of
kindness, community projects, and service to
others. The best way to teach these lessons
is through your own positive action and
leading by example. As a team, you can start
a project to help others around you, make
someone else's day by doing something
selfless and kind, or start a project that
can make a huge
difference
in your community and allow the members of
your group to take an active role in it. The
possibilities are endless and the bottom
line is, we are always teaching because
children are always watching and learning.
Don't miss these moments that occur everyday
to educate these children on the important
things in life. In truth, they won't miss
those moments to learn so be sure that in
those moments of learning, they are
absorbing positive, healthy, beneficial
lessons and traits that will take them
exceedingly far in life.
