Who is Mr. Gary Engels?

Gary Engels is the creator of the NLT. He began training in the martial arts when he was just 5 and has been teaching martial arts since he was 15 years old. Gary currently holds multiple ranks and achievements including the completion of the most complete black belt test ever created. On September 7th of 2007 Mr. Engels achieved his 3rd Dan Black Belt through the Ultimate Black Belt Test. This 2 year test was no easy task.

Mr. Engels has developed this nationwide leadership development program - the National Leadership Team. The Reason for this program is to raise the level of leadership in children and adults across the nation. He believes that the last thing we need in this world is another kick landed or punch thrown. The NLT is designed to bring everyone (martial artists and non-martial artists) an understanding of how to apply the principles of the martial arts “out of the dojo and into the world” through “experience based leadership development”.

"The experience is everything and leadership can not be taught in a book, it must be felt, it must be lived through real world experience. There is no better way to learn this then through the Leadership Program."            - Mr. Engels

By constantly continuing his education in martial arts, character development, and leadership, Mr. Engels is an inspiration for his students in the NLT and his local school and the Northwoods Area Community. He Started his Martial Arts Academy in Woodruff, WI in September of 2005.

After School he furthered his Leadership Training by working with some of the top character development programs in the United States including Mike Chat`s XMA, Brent Payne and Shane Kryder`s Beyond Freedom, and Tony Robbins` Get the Edge and Personal Power and many others.

Gary’s mission with the NLT is to assist this national leadership team in accomplishing 5000 community service projects nationwide to create the largest Project Based Leadership Training Database in existence. This is his contribution to the entire martial arts industry. His students at Leadership Academy are leading the way through setting the example for many.

"Other than our local martial arts school (Leadership Academy), The National Leadership Team is my single greatest accomplishment. It gave me the opportunity to give back more than I receive. To inspire, to coach, and to make a difference in not only my community but to help others make a difference in communities across the nation; that is my ultimate mission. When we hit our goal of 5000 projects, you will have assisted a team of winners and become a part of something very special. Thank you for all of your support."

"Clara's experience with the Leadership Quest Program has been very positive. Although we can see some very positive changes in many ways, there was one incident that spoke volumes to us; we had spoken to Clara's current teacher during open house and she was telling us how much Clara participates in class and raises her hand all the time. Until she set that goal, every teacher prior had told us how quiet and reserved she was!"

- Tami Schroeder
(Clara's Mother)

"...Its been amazing to watch our youngest daughter transform from a shy 5 year-old to a confident 9 year old. She has experienced the satisfaction that comes with overcoming one's fears to achieve your goals.
We have also witnessed a remarkable level of focus and determination in our older daughter. She has become goal oriented and has worked very hard for her multiple achievements...
We are very pleased with the [NLT] Leadership Program. Not only does Mr. Engels teach the skills needed to advance in martial arts, through this website and this program, he is helping to mold our children into responsible citizens. His leadership program focuses on the development of positive character traits through lessons involving goal-setting and community service projects... The Leadership Program comes highly recommended by all members of the Raykovich family!"
